How It Works

Whether you're moving house and need to lighten the load, or you're looking for great deals in your area — movingsale.ie makes it simple.

1

Create Your Account

Register with your name, email, phone number, and location. Choose a unique alias that will be shown publicly instead of your real name — your privacy matters to us. Verify your email and phone to activate your account.

2

Create a Moving Sale Event

Set your moving date and location (you can use coordinates, a city name, or a full address — we use OpenStreetMap to resolve it). Your event will be visible to buyers nearby, sorted by distance. You'll verify your phone with a one-time code each time you create an event for security.

3

List Your Items

Add items with photos (and even a short video!), a description, condition, specifications, and your asking price. Select a main photo that will appear in listings. You can add up to 10 images per item. Need to adjust? Edit items anytime — reduce the price, update details, or change the main photo.

4

Buyers Browse & Discover

Buyers see events sorted by proximity to their location. They can filter by distance and browse items with photos, specs, and pricing. No account needed to browse — but you'll need one to buy or make offers.

5

Buy Now or Make an Offer

Found something you love? Hit "Buy Now" to purchase at the asking price, or submit a lower offer. Sellers see all pending offers with buyer aliases and trust scores (completed purchases), helping them decide who to sell to. Both parties receive email notifications at every step.

6

Accept, Decline, or Wait

As a seller, you can accept or decline offers at any time. Accepting an offer marks the item as sold and notifies the buyer. All other pending offers are automatically declined. If a buyer doesn't follow through, you can relist the item with a reason.

7

Event Expiry

When your moving date arrives, your event expires automatically. You'll receive a summary email listing unsold items and their best offers. You can still accept or decline the best offer on each item after expiry — giving you one last chance to sell before you go.

8

Confirm & Build Trust

After a successful transaction, sellers can confirm the sale was completed. This increments the buyer's trust score — shown as a green badge (✓) next to their alias. Higher trust scores help buyers stand out when making offers on future items.

Your Privacy Matters

Real names are never shown publicly — only your chosen alias. Contact details are only shared between buyer and seller after a transaction is confirmed, and both parties can choose when to reveal their identity.
